HBO has released an in-production trailer for the eagerly awaited second season of Game of Thrones. Fans are offered a behind-the-scenes look with the writers and directors as well as some familiar faces and some new ones who will feature this coming season. Co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss talk about about the continuing saga and the challenges of writing such compelling stories.
Much of the first season blew viewer’s minds with it’s incredible and sometimes shocking twists and turns and there’s little doubt that the new season will be any different. That said there are some new characters to make up for those lost, EW reports that Downton Abbey star Rose Leslie has joined the cast to play Ygritte, ‘a Wilding woman that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) meets during his adventures beyond the Wall’. The character is said to be strong willed with plenty of survival skills in the wilderness and able to handle herself in battle. She’s an unconventional beauty, skinny but strong with red hair (which the Wildlings consider ‘kissed by fire’).
Edward Dogliani also joins the cast as a wilding raider known as the Lord of Bones, who’s also referred to as Rattleshirt due to his armor of clattering bones. THR reports that his character from the George R.R. Martin adaptation will go mano-a-mano with Jon Snow.
Game of Thrones Season 2 premieres April 2012.
