Last years trashy and exploitative style horror Piranha 3D was a massive hit that combined plenty of nudity and gore and all in the right combination – but where a film like ‘Shark Night’ failed to find an audience, Piranha stole the show in terms of laughs and gory thrills.
Now the first teaser trailer for the sequel is here thanks to the recent SpikeTV ‘Scream Awards’ and though short, this first look at the follow-up shows it’s possibly just as ludicrous and fun as the first, with a title that slams another ‘D’ on it’s title just for good measure, and shows us why. Originally the film was meant to open in November though for some reason the date was pushed back to next year. This time round the flick is directed by John Gulager who’s not made any big hits – but this is more of a studio flick with a paltry 20 million investment that’s sure to be lucrative at the box office.
The story sees the friendly flesh eaters travelling via the underwater pipes to take vengeance on all of the frolicking babes in the water park, so we won’t be seeing ‘the Vampire Diaries’ star Steven R. McQueen or Eizabeth Shue from the first, just the characters that help tie the two together – namely ‘Doc Brown’ himself Christopher Lloyd and ‘Marsellus Wallace’ Ving Rhames – who’s sporting some new leg accesories after getting them chomped off in the first. Point Break’s Gary Busey is also set to make the whole thing just as memorable as it will surely be forgettable – until the next installment.
The fish bait cast also stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, Paul Scheer, and David Hasselhoff.
Piranha 3DD opens 2012.
