As the December release date draws near, a new trailer for Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol has been released. It offers more clues to this latest mission and highlights some of the visually appealing action sequences to maximize interest.
Where the third installment utilized a retrospective narrative with Ethan Hunt strapped to a chair and the majority of the flick shown in flashback, this new one seems to follow a linear pattern with events building up the intrigue as one more piece of the puzzle falls into place. That said you can be sure there’s an appropriately placed explanatory reveal that unravels the mystery of what seems to be full of twists and turns to keep you guessing for two and half hours.
Last week, members of the press got to see nearly twenty minutes of Ghost Protocol at a special IMAX screening, and many of those were dazzled by the sequences shown, in particular the spectacular IMAX imagery of Tom Cruise scaling the world’s tallest building – the Burj Khalifa .
With Brad Bird making his live action directorial debut, the filmmaker is set to dazzle audiences with his incredible narrative style, and while amazing imagery is always a drawcard, a well told story is the key and this film is sure to be a culmination of his skills in this area.
Here’s the synopsis:
This is not just another mission. The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in a global terrorist bombing plot. Ghost Protocol is initiated and Ethan Hunt and his rogue new team must go undercover to clear their organization’s name. No help, no contact, off the grid. You have never seen a mission grittier and more intense than this.
The film also stars Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway, Michael Nyqvist, and Tom Wilkinson.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens in select IMAX theaters on December 16th, and opens wide December 21st, 2011.
