The first trailer for Men in Black 3 is here, and the good news is that it doesn’t suck – the problem with some sequels especially from a franchise that began more than decade ago is that everyone’s trying too hard and the plot seems overly convoluted. What’s surprising is to see that stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones haven’t missed a beat, so this could be a fun installment that hopefully improves on the somewhat mindlessness antics of Men in Black 2 that opened back in 2002.
That said the trailer hints at only a small portion of the story, particularly the parts that experienced less production difficulty. The new flick involves the concept of Time Travel and required production to be halted for a few month for the section of the script that dealt with those events to be rewritten.
Josh Brolin plays a younger Agent K but the trailer offers only a glimpse – perhaps for the better so as not to give too much away. All we really want to know is have they captured the look and vibe of the first Men In Black – and the answer is a resounding yes. The last piece of the puzzle will surely be another one of Will Smith’s catchy tunes that will help us all remember… what made the first flick so cool.
Here’s the synopsis:
In Men in Black 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back… in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.
The film stars Alice Eve, Emma Thompson, Rip Torn, Johnny Knoxville, and Jemaine Clement.
Men in Black 3 opens in 3D on May 25th, 2012.
