Here’s your first look at the CGI action extravaganza Wrath of the Titans the aptly titled sequel to Clash of the Titans. Sam Worthington returns as Perseus to battle more gods and insanely ferocious leviathans. Set ten years after the events of the first, he’s returned to the quieter life of a village fisherman and sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. However it doesn’t take long before the warring factions of the gods spill over into humanity and force Perseus to do battle with two headed monsters.
Director Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) who took over the reigns from Louis Leterrier, expressed a desire to fashion the sequel as more of a grounded, swords & sandals epic. Gemma Arterton was unable to reprise her role due to commitments on the witch hunter flick, Hansel & Gretel and Rosamund Pike takes over the role of Andromeda.
While the original was post converted to 3D to the frustration of many, the filmmakers had said they would this time be shooting in 3D – though recent reports say that the flick will once again be post converted.
Here’s the synopsis:
A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) –the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)–is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.
The film stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramiez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, and Rosamund Pike.
Wrath of the Titans opens March 30, 2012.
