The first trailer is here for The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner from writer-director Tony Gilroy. Okay so by now you probably know that Matt Damon didn’t want to return without director Paul Greengrass who crafted the last two flicks so well, and this forced the studios to essentially re-cast and have series writer Gilroy fashion an alternate story featuring an all-new messed up killing machine. We get a glimpse at the program that’s similar Treadstone, which also has a few medical tricks ( with some help from Rachel Weisz ) up it’s sleeve to rejuvenate Renner’s severely injured character so that the brain washing can begin.
It is somewhat strange seeing many of the major characters minus Matt Damon, and the hand to hand combat looks less than enthralling – but all up there should be enough ingredients to get some enjoyment from this installment. The downside is that we’ll likely never see the real Jason Bourne back in action, unless there’s a severe backlash at the box-office – if all goes well Renner will continue.
The film also stars Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, and Scott Glenn.
Official synopsis:
The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.
For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.
The Bourne Legacy opens August 3rd, 2012.
