When the final moments drew to a close in last season’s uber cool American Horror Story, almost none of the main cast were in the land of the living, with only Jessica Lange and the demon seed of a son remaining. Soon after co-creator Ryan Murphy announced that the show was designed as an anthology style series, with the horror set to continue in a new time and setting with the same actors possibly playing new roles.
Recently at the PaleyFest panel, held at the packed Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills – creators Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy were on hand to make some early announcements on which actors are locked in to return. Falchuk confirmed that they were committed to making the show an anthology, with each season a new story and “a new group of people to fuck with.”
Fan favorites Zachary Quinto and Jessica Lange were confirmed along with Evan Peters who played Lange’s twisted son Tate, Lily Rabe who played Nora Montgomery and Sarah Paulson who featured as the psychic, Billie Dean Howard.
The creators kicked-off PaleyFest 2012 with a special screening of the first season episode, “Birth” – joining them were Jessica Lange, Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, Alexandra Breckenridge and Dean Di Loreto.
With only a handful of the first season actors confirmed, and Jessica Lange’s character set to take center stage – there still remains the likelihood that other actors from last season will also have roles. While Ryan Murphy added that they’re still mapping out the new season – he hinted that all the actors could in fact feature in some new incarnation:
We don’t want to talk about it too much, we’re still writing, anybody could pop up at any time… everyone is playing the opposite of what they played before.
The only clue offered is that the new season will be set somewhere at an East Coast Institution.
Filming of the second season begins in July. Expect American Horror Story : Season 2 to debut this Halloween.
