MEN IN BLACK 3 – New Trailer

A new full length trailer is here for Men in Black 3 that shows us what the teaser trailer was only hinting at – the portion of the story that travels back to the 1960’s. The energy of this trailer is pretty cool, with the premise looking very clever without trying to recycle concepts from the first two flicks.

That said the director of Men in Black 3 Barry Sonnenfeld recently spoke about the perilous production which had the movie commence shooting before having a complete script.

After the first portion of the story was shot – the production went on hiatus so that various screenwriters could figure out the conclusion.

Sonnenfeld explained:

We knew starting the movie that we didn’t have a finished second or third act. Was it responsible? The answer is, if this movie does as well as I think it will, it was genius. If it’s a total failure, then it was a really stupid idea.

That said watching the trailer you wouldn’t know there was an issue – after the somewhat mediocre results of the second flick – perhaps this approach has worked to the films’ benefit.

Rick Baker, the legendary make-up effects artist who designs the ingenious aliens – had this to say about the production:

It was a crazy production. We had a writer actually on the soundstage writing the words moments before the guys had to say them. I don’t think that’s any way to make a movie. But I’ve seen a rough cut and I was actually shocked at how good it was.

There’s plenty to look forward to here – Josh Brolin as the younger Tommy Lee Jones is spot on, and Will Smith has some pretty cool lines,  reminding us what we loved about the  original and what may be waiting for us in this third installment.

The film also stars  Emma Thompson, Jemaine Clement, Alice Eve, and Nicole Scherzinger.
