LOST Alum Joins PSYCHO Prequel Series

Former Lost Alum Carlton Cuse is joining the  A&E series The Bates Motel as an executive producer and writer. While this sounds more like an effort to infuse the concept with some cryptic intrigue, the show will tell the story of the times only hinted at in Alfred Hitchcock’s horror classic, Psycho.

Perhaps somewhat inspired by the hugely successful American Horror Story, this new show “aims to tell the story of a young Bates and how his deranged mother and her lover unhinged his mind, eventually turning him into a serial killer.”

While in concept prequels are intriguing, their impending sense of inevitability can be defeatist – but if handled properly it could be worthwhile as Hitchcock’s masterpiece is one of the defining movies of it’s genre.

In addition to Cuse, Friday Night Lights and Parenthood alum Kerry Ehrin will executive produce and write alongside Cuse, and the show is being described as a cross betweenTwin Peaks and Smallville – Cuse is set to oversee the production should the pilot be picked up to series.
