THE EXPENDABLES 2 First Full-Length Trailer

The first full-length trailer for The Expendables 2 is here with plenty of gunfire and explosions, and some unnecessary one-liners.  Jean Claude Van Damme plays the villain who’s in need of way too much plutonium, putting him in Sly’s cross hairs and setting up a the need for a surefire beat down. Bruce Willis returns in a larger capacity this time round to bring some needed coolness to the table, as does former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who once more get’s to say his Terminator catch phrase “I’m Back” – what’s the bet he insisted? Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth plays a young sniper on the team, which should draw the tween audiences not familiar with these former action icons.

While the plot most seems somewhat incoherent, this could be lot of fun with plenty of action and violence.  At one stage the film was set to be rated PG-13 as a condition of  Chuck Norris‘s involvement. This had some fans worried that a watered down version of the carnage would be less than enthralling,  however Dolph Lundgren speaking with Empire confirms that Sylvester Stallone has changed his mind and wants the film to be hardcore:

I heard that it’s now R again. Stallone’s basic setting is to make it very violent. That’s just in his personality, and if it was me I would do the same. I guess the producers figure they can make another $50m if it’s PG-13, and if it was my money I might say the same thing! But I think for the fans, if it’s tougher it’s better.

Having an R-rating will ensure the film doesn’t have to compromise ensuring the action will be all the more insane.  Con-Air director Simon West is behind the camera this time, and it looks like he’s brought some much needed cinematic wizardry to this installment.

Here’s the synopsis:

The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal… Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time — six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….
