A new trailer for The Bourne Legacy has been released which makes the film look very cool, despite the fact it’s a sequel to the Bourne Ultimatum minus the likes of Matt Damon. However it seems writer/director Tony Gilroy has found some inventive ways to keep his character fresh in viewers minds, with the story seemingly taking place in a dual timeline to the last film with some footage from the previous flick incorporated and the character of Jason Bourne featured in TV telecasts. Most of the series original stars are back to insure consistency, but there’s are also some big name stars like Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz to help fill the void.
This time the assassins are more than just brainwahsed participants of a secret government program, they are now genetically enhanced killers and Edward Norton‘s character is one by one knocking them off to prevent another Bourne situation. However one member of the program (Jeremy Renner) ends up escaping with a scientist (Rachel Weisz), and the two go on the run for their lives.
Perhaps this scientific theme adds a new spin to the Bourne story, but it also kinds of take the edge off the subliminally programmed lethal killer, and pushes the concept towards a mutant-themed thriller. But who knows, perhaps Gilroy knows something about genetics that science has yet to discover. Either way the action looks cool, and it could be an exciting flick nonetheless. Hopefully the inclusion of Damon’s character in the narrative will lure the star back to reclaim his role, but that may require some genetic persuasion as the star has stated on numerous occasions that he will only return if series director Paul Greengrass returns also.
The film also stars Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, and Oscar Isaac.
