A new international trailer for Rian Johnson’s eagerly awaited sci-fi film Looper, has gone online. It tells the tale of a young hitman (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who eliminates targets sent back in time by mobsters in the future. However one day, Levitt’s character Joe, is about to carry out his next routine execution – only to discover the target is the older version of himself (played by Bruce Willis).
The new trailer offers more of the storyline, including how the other characters played by Emily Blunt and Jeff Daniels factor into the plot. Daniels’ character seems to be playing one of the future head mobsters, and Garret Dillahunt is referred to as “the rainmaker” who older Joe tries to convince his younger self must be eliminated in the past. Blunt plays the love interest who gets caught in the middle of the Joe counterparts at odds with one another.
Time travel flicks always have convoluted logistics and plenty of paradoxes to explain certain events, however it’s expected that director Johnson will use the plot device to address some bigger meaningful questions, most notably the choices we make that effect us in the long-term and whether a shift in direction can truly alter one’s fate.
The film also stars Piper Perabo and Paul Dano.
Looper opens September 28th, 2012.
