The long awaited first trailer for the fantasy actioner Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters has been released. The film stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the grown-up versions of the titular characters. The film was supposed to be released this March gone, but Paramount decided back in January to push it back all the way to January of 2013. Some of the delay might’ve have been due to the timing of Jeremey Renner’s other films which have certainly raised his profile, and the studio was also said to be unsure of whether to release the flick as R-rated or PG-13, that said the R-rated version was used in test screenings and the responses were said to be quite positive.
The trailer shows off the flick isn’t taking itself too seriously, with the eponymous fairy tale characters looking to take down witches at every turn. It could be quite a bit of fun, star Arterton has described the flick “as much Pulp Fiction as fairy tale,” with IMDb test audiences confirming a twisted – comedic gory tone.
The film also stars Famke Janssen and Peter Stormare.
