CLOUD ATLAS New Trailer Starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, and Hugo Weaving

Another dazzling trailer has been released for the Wachowski‘s ambitious Clouds Atlas, which tells the story of multiple lives across a myriad of timelines. It’s rare for a trailer to be this awe inspiring and generate such anticipation – but after watching, one certainly has high hopes for this film.

The new trailer has plenty of impressive imagery that offers another perspective of the film’s epic scope – the voiceover by Susan Sarandon communicates it’s themes for unfamiliar audiences. That said, it’s looks to be a complex and unique tale which may have trouble finding an audience – on the other hand it may just be one of year’s biggest films.

Bringing David Mitchell’s book to the screen has been no easy feat;  the film-makers revealing to The New Yorker how the they approached the adaptation of this somewhat “unfilmable”story. The biggest challenge was the structure of novel which is ordered chronologically until the middle of the book, when the sequence reverses and introduces a new story. So, teaming up with Run Lola Run director Tom Tykwer, the trio forged a new narrative which would convey the idea of eternal recurrence; the central theme of the novel, and have the actors appear in multiple story lines which Tykwer describes as, “playing souls, not characters.”

Here’s the synopsis:

“Cloud Atlas” explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.

The film stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant,Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, and David Gyasi.

Cloud Atlas opens October 26th, 2012.
