The first teaser trailer is here for Kimberly Peirce‘s remake of the Brian DePalma horror masterpiece, Carrie. Adapted from Stephen King’s first published novel, the original starred Sissy Spacek in a star making role, playing the teenage girl with telekinetic powers who after being humiliated at the school prom unleashes a wave of destruction upon her classmates. The final reel in DePalma’s original became an iconic moment in movie history, the director employed the use of split screen imagery to create a mesmerizing sequence of horrific events.
In the remake Carrie is played by Chloë Moretz (Kick-Ass), though this first teaser trailer only features her briefly, focusing on what is presumably the destructive wake of her telekinetic response on the entire town aflame and in shambles. The film’s producers claim this retelling will be more faithful to the book, and where DePalma’s film ended, the new flick will continue; which will be closer to the book’s ending and should make for a more action packed aftermath.
Here’s the synopsis:
A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.
The film also stars Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Alex Russell, Portia Doubleday, Ansel Elgort, and Gabriella Wilde.
