A bloody red-band trailer is finally here for director Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake. If you’re a fan of the Sam Raimi original, there’s plenty to like in this trailer which kicks the themes of the horror classic up a notch. What looks really cool is how the Zombie action combines traditional practical effects with current CGI wizardry to take the gore – which made the first so memorable – to a whole new level.
The film has the same terrifying tone of the classic flick, with director Alvarez’s offering some disturbing new takes on the Necronomicon, the Deadites, and the infamous tree assault – with some gut wrenching amputations and unnerving tongue splicing added to the mix.
Here’s the synopsis:
In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
Watching the trailer, a lot of the narrative beats seem very familiar – and while the reinvention of the Zombie masterpiece looks eye popping, hopefully there’s an added dimension to the retelling of this classic story.
The film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore.
