First Promo for PSYCHO Prequel Series BATES MOTEL

freddie-highmore-bates-motel-trailerThe first trailer / featurette has been released for the upcoming A&E series, Bates Motel.  The show serves as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film Psycho, with Freddie Highmore as a young Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother.  Former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse is onboard to help steer the creative process, so if anyone can stretch out the proceedings to an inevitable conclusion  – he’s a man with plenty of experience.

In the promo, the cast and crew discuss the series, Farmiga notes how it’s not so much a remake of Psycho, but instead they’re “using it as an inspiration.”  If anyone has seen the classic Hitchcock flick – and who hasn’t? Then they’re aware of where the characters are heading – so while there’s less suspense in knowing what the future one day holds – this prequel concept will surely hold our attention more in the way of revelations, to learn why a seemingly normal boy, later goes on to keeping his poor decaying ma upstairs, and then perform ritualistic killings all whilst wearing a wig and her favorite gown.

A&E ordered Bates Motel straight to series without an initial pilot, so we can look forward to an uninterrupted run of ten gleefully disturbing episodes.

The series also stars Nestor CarbonellMax ThieriotOlivia Cooke, and Mike Vogel.

Bates Motel premieres on A&E in March 2013.
