The first mind blowing trailer is here for director Guillermo del Toro monster mayhem extravaganza, Pacific Rim. The flick sees the human race losing the battle against a giant race of invading monsters called “Kaiju,” and so to fight them more effectively, giant human-controlled robots called “Jaegers” are built.
The visuals here are second to none, and though it draws inspiration from the classic Japanese produced ‘Godzilla vs’ flicks, this is sure to be a monster of it’s own at the box-office. While the carnage and explosive visuals will be enough to draw in the masses, the major drawcard will be del Toro’s visual style, coupled with his strong storytelling skills. At one stage the director was prepping The Hobbit prequels, until the constant delays forced him to move on, and while director Peter Jackson was the perfect choice to continue the Tolkien mythos, moving on to make Pacific Rim was clearly the right decision for the talented director.
The studios are clearly highly impressed with what they’ve seen, and have already tapped the film-maker and screenwriter Travis Beacham to co-write the script for the proposed Pacific Rim sequel. While the film was shot in 2D, Warner Bros decided to post-convert the flick into 3D, and though the director didn’t think the format would initially work for the film, he recently praised the process being supervised by the wizards at ILM.
The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Max Martini, Rob Kazinsky, Clifton Collins Jr., and Diego Klattenhoff.
