After director Michael Bay finished making Transformers 3, he wanted to work on a pet project, a small-scale black comedy. Based on a true story, Pain and Gain stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson as two body-builders who get caught up in an extortion and kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong.
The film was made on a paltry $25 milion dollar budget – compared to Bay’s mega million dollar Transformers budgets, and working with Mark Wahlberg convinced the director that he was the perfect choice to continue the Transformers franchise. The fourth instalment of Transformers starts filming in May, and then Wahlberg will start work on the sequel to Ted.
The film also stars Ed Harris, Anthony Mackie, Ken Jeong, Tony Shalhoub, Rebel Wilson and Rob Corddry.
Pain and Gain opens on April 26, 2013.
