24 The Movie May Not Happen After All

24-tv-showFans of Kiefer Sutherland’s TV Series 24, may have been waiting in vain. Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, who was attached to the project, says the movie version looks unlikely at this stage.

Whilst out promoting his latest film Olympus Has Fallen, Fuqua had this to say about the status of 24:

Yeah, that’s not happening. I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all, definitely not with me… I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [Touch]. I don’t think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.

Though the director has been off the project for some time, the interest Fox had in the property may have died down. Despite the fact that his new series Touch looks all but over due to low ratings, and this may finally free up Sutherland’s schedule – the fact the show has been off the air for over three years, interest by the studio and possibly audiences for a big screen adaptation may not be there. Translating this ‘real time’ themed show into a major flick would always be a tricky one, but in Hollywood – never say never.
