Toy Story 3 was released June 18 and was the 11th Disney/Pixar title to open in the No. 1 spot grossing $109 million in it’s opening weekend in North America. Disney announced so far that it’s earnings have exceeded the $920 million mark globally and has topped the Dreamworks blockbuster Shrek which made $919.8 million worldwide.
The film marks the successful reunion of the franchise and has become a hit with audiences since the initial Toy Story opened more than 15 years ago.Disney execs are more than thrilled with the performance of the CG movie which has redefined the animation process as well as confirming the storytelling abilities of the Pixar team. Rich Ross, chairman of the Walt Disney Studios was ecstatic over the news of the latest tally figures.
The success of ‘Toy Story’ is due to the tremendously creative and innovative team at Pixar, led by John Lasseter and Ed Catmull, and our incredible marketing and distribution teams around the world…..director Lee Unkrich, producer Darla Anderson and the incredible team at Pixar have given audiences a film that continued the rich storytelling and character building that have become synonymous with every Pixar release.
The movie will be released on Blu-ray and DVD Nov. 2.
