Matt Smith is headed back to TV with Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol, which doesn’t officially kick off the new season but is more of a Chrissy present to all the Doctor Who fans out there. The Christmas Specials have become a regular fixture of the series that play more like tele-movies than episodes, and it’ll be exciting to see Matt‘s first Christmas escapade as The Doctor.
Writer / producer Steven Moffat who took over from Russell T. Davies as showrunner, will bring his trademark humor and action that will likely resist the need for recycled villains. He’s said that they’re pulling out all the stops with this special:
Oh, we’re going for broke with this one. It’s all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And … oh, you’ll see. I’ve honestly never been so excited about writing anything.
Set on another planet, Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) are on their Honeymoon, whilst the Doctor borrows from the Scrooge universe and assumes the role of The Ghost of Christmas Past, presumably to set things in motion. Guest starring in this special is BAFTA-winning Sir Michael Gambon and the Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins.
