Director Darren Aronofsky is currently doing interviews for the upcoming release of his psycho ballet thriller Black Swan and the hot topic of discussion is his first studio franchise film, The Wolverine. Thanks to David Poland over at Movie City News, the filmmaker talked earlier this week about the reasons for making a big budget flick as opposed to the character introspective dramas which have been a hallmark of his career.

The man behind the awesome Mickey Rourke comeback movie The Wrestler, gave insight into what he hopes to achieve with his first tentpole movie and as a filmmaker what he strives for in his stories.

He’s clearly a talented chap who also has good taste in scarves, but most importantly he’s down to earth and knows his stuff, so we can expect The Wolverine to be a character motivated story plus all the trappings that make these films cool. He discusses how this one will be a standalone story, setting it apart from it’s predecessor and the X-men films.

From The Wolverine press release,  Fox execs had this to say about the filmmaker:

Darren’s vision has brought audiences some of the most original and memorable stories and characters in recent motion picture historyWe at Fox witnessed this first hand with his work on ‘The Wrestler,’ and ‘Black Swan,’ and now, on ‘The Wolverine,’ which will be an exciting take on that iconic figure and on the genre itself. We can’t wait to see what else Darren has in store for us.

It’s a fascinating insight into a filmmaker who’s set to make great films for a long time to come, check out the video here:
