New Zealand-born filmmaker Andrew Dominik is about to re-team with the players from his Jesse James flick for his next movie Cogan’s Trade. Based on the 1974 best seller by George V. Higgins, it’s sizing up to be a comedic / crime thriller centering on Jackie Cogan, ‘a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game under protection of the mob’.
Brad Pitt who’s set to play Cogan, has been attached to the project since last year and will also serve as producer under his Plan B banner with Dede Gardner. His character from the book is described as an enforcer with ‘a ruthless businessman’s efficiency, a shrewd sense of other people’s weaknesses, and a style as cold as his stare’, this certainly sounds like something Pitt can handle. The film will shoot entirely in and around New Orleans and the studios at Second Line Stages. It will be the first film Pitt has made in Louisiana since 2008’s ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’.
This week Sam Rockwell joined the cast and recently finished work on Jon Favreau’s ‘Cowboys and Aliens’ alongside Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig. Casey Affleck last seen in ‘The Killer Inside Me’ also features in the movie, both their roles have yet to be announced.
The film’s ensemble cast is said to be lining up Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Bill Murray, Mark Ruffalo and ‘Avatar’ star Zoe Saldana. Dominik has penned the script which he’s been developing for some time and it will be his third film since making his debut with ‘Chopper’ starring Eric Bana. Shooting is expected to commence this March.
