The movie about a group of retired assassins is set to get a sequel. RED was a well executed production based on the DC comic that had a witty script brought to life by it’s high caliber actors.
For Bruce Willis it confirmed he’s still got a few tricks in his bag when it comes to action and for the other actors it showed a side we hadn’t seen – Helen Mirren relishing the Gatling gun was a super cool scene. For Summit Entertainment it was the biggest money maker outside of their Twilight flicks and has currently pulled in $164 million worldwide, from a $58 million dollar budget. It also grabbed some attention at the Golden Globes with it’s nomination for Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) which earned it some extra attention.
Brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber did a fantastic job adapting the movie from the comic and Summit Entertainment is happy to hire the pair to pen the sequel. Though at this stage the production doesn’t yet have a greenlight and the cast will have to sign on to reprise their roles.
The brothers recently rewrote the upcoming Sam Worthington thriller ‘Man on a Ledge’ as well as the script for Peter Berg’s summer flick ‘Battleship’ which has met with James Cameron‘s disapproval.
It’ll be some time before we see a sequel to RED, but knowing that another installment is on the way and possibly a franchise, it should be worth the wait.
