The list continues to grow of Smallville alums returning to the CW’s juggernaut series for it’s final season. Last week it was announced that John Glover would be returning for at least two episodes that are set to air in November. Lionel Luthor was killed off in season 7 and it’s unknown if his appearance is via flashback or apparition. John Schneider who departed in season 5 is also returning as Johnathon Kent for at least one episode with a warning of sorts for Clark about an impending danger and to embrace his destiny. James Masters is back to wreak havoc as Braniac, as is Laura Vandeport returning as Lara, who’s adopts a persona similar to the Linda Danver character in comic books and starts making some heroic saves in her skimpy new super colors number.
Though the biggest question is whether we’ll see the return of the quintessential nemesis Lex Luthor, played by Michael Rosenbaum. At this stage nothing has been confirmed, but nothing has been denied either. Tom Welling has stated on numerous occasions that Lex’s return is integral to the series ending on the right note, and he’s been pressuring his bud to reprise the pivotal role. Producers have stated that they are hoping for Michael to return for at least 9 or 10 episodes which could see Lex make an appearance at the back end of the series after the mid season break, allowing time for filming and for Rosenbaum to wrap up other projects. At present he’s appearing in the new Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker movie Catch .44. Perhaps working along side Bruce who shaved his hair off years ago, will give Michael the nudge to pick up the dreaded electric razor one last time.
Fans of Smallville are hopeful of Lex’s return as it wouldn’t be a proper send off without him. The preview of the new season is taken from the screening at this years Comic-Con, judge for yourself and the secrets it may hold.
The new season starts Sept 24th on the CW.
