Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is hot property in Hollywood at the moment with a casting frenzy underway for key roles in what’s shaping up to be a massive movie next year. The studios were in something of a bidding war for the movie adaptation which Tim Burton and director Timur Bekmambetov optioned with their own money and had the script written by the book’s author Seth Grahame-Smith.

Now after a lengthy casting process where names like Eric Bana, Adrien Brody, James D’Arcy, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Josh Lucas were all in the running to play the Presidential vampire hunter, the director has chosen current Broadway star, Benjamin Walker.

The 28 year old actor was originally set to appear in the ‘X-Men: First Class’ movie though dropped out to reprise his role in the musical ‘Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson’. Walker’s name isn’t that well known to audiences so it will give some authenticity to the character without the film being a star vehicle.

Another role that’s yet to be filled is Lincoln’s vampire friend Henry Sturges, who teaches him how to hunt and combat other vampires to avenge his mother’s death. At one point ‘Inception’ star Tom Hardy was offered the role but with ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ set to start shooting in May, another candidate is likely in the running.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is scheduled for release June 22, 2012.
