Oscar Winners 2011

oscar 2011 winners

Here’s the list of Oscar winners for 2011 – it was a surprising year with movies nominated the most missing out, and favorites only taking home half their haul.

While The Social Network was at one stage the favorite, The King’s Speech soared ahead in nominations and became the front runner to win. David Fincher crafted an intense movie about Facebook, and this revealing behind the scenes video shows his film-making style was very hands on. The film however was rewarded for it’s seamless editing and the screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, which proved to be it’s  strongest component.

The Academy chose to reward The King’s Speech as the Best  Film and for it’s director Tom Hooper, who crafted great scenes and offered audiences an inspiring story of a future King’s triumph over adversity.

Christian Bale and Melissa Leo brought a lot of truth to their performances in The Fighter, going the distance for greater realism. True Grit showed exemplary film-making and great storytelling with an amazing performance by newcomer Hailee Steinfeld. Both she and the film missed out, including it’s nomination for Best cinematography, that award went to Wally Pfister for Inception who’s incredible work helped realize Christopher Nolan‘s complex vision. The film tied with the year’s Best film and also won big in the areas of sound and visual effects.
