Production is gearing up to shoot the pilot for the Wonder Woman reboot from David E. Kelley, and this week saw the casting of two additional lead characters. Supermodel turned actress Elizabeth Hurley will play the arch nemesis Veronica Cale, the head of Cale-Anderson Pharmaceuticals, ‘who is afflicted with serious deep-seated Wonder Woman envy’. Despite her beauty and success she can’t stand Wonder Woman and aims to take her down. Hurley’s significant charms should prove entertaining playing a David E. Kelley styled villain. Her part is said to be that of a recurring role as there’s likely plenty of other villains and Hurley’s role will be more ongoing.
Also joining the cast is Cary Elwes who might also be a romantic interest, playing Henry Detmer, the acting CEO of Themyscira Industries who also harbors something of a crush on the alluring amazonian super heroine. Elwes character is deeply devoted to Diana and runs the day-to-day operations of the company. Elwes was last seen in ‘No Strings Attached’ and features in the upcoming Spielberg-Jackson motion cap flick ‘Tintin’.
Wonder Woman may debut later this year and stars the already cast Adrianne Palicki who’ll play the dual roles of Wonder Woman aka Diana Themscira and her every woman persona of Diana Prince. Her outfit is set to be an overhauled hybrid of the classic look and the reinvented stylings that helped launch the 600th issue of the comics, though the script refers to it as “a colorful spandex suit” and Diana is said to have issues with Katie Perry who borrows the look in her music video “Super-duper Me.” Tracie Thoms from ‘Cold Case’ will play Etta Candy, Diana’s always cheerful secretary and personal assistant.
All this talent is boosting interest in a show that’s attracting a lot of attention on the superhero web-boards, and could turn out to be an enjoyable piece of escapist fare. It will also be cool to see Kelley turns his considerable talents to the fashioning of characters outside the realm of his signature legal dramas.
