The new trailer for Cars 2 has just been released which shows off Pixar’s usual flair at inventive story telling and mind boggling visuals combined with the sumptuous imagery of the computer animated genre.
The new story sees Owen Wilson‘s Lightning McQueen propelled into the international racing scene and also a covert spy mystery that looks to be one from James Bond’s playbook. Finn McMissile is the featured spy car voiced brilliantly by Michael Caine who brings his irreverent comedic style as he did to the spy dad in ‘Goldmember’. Here his character is from the ranks of British Intelligence with a car stylized on the Aston Martin DB5, James Bond’s trademark vehicle.
While the first Cars was relatively successful, the story was seen as somewhat lackluster with a singular tale at the core; realizing that there’s more to life than winning (tell that to Donald Trump).
The new story plays upon the popularity of Mater the tow truck, who had his own ‘Tall Tales’ series debut on Disney XD, so this flick looks to have a more elaborate plot that draws upon the spy-movie genre and their cliches to add to the action and the wit.
The upcoming sequel is from John Lasseter and co-director Brad Lewis, with music by Michael Giacchino, so expect some rousing themes to balance the suspense and humor.
The new Pixar adventure also stars the vocal talents of John Turturro,Michael Keaton,Jason Isaacs,Emily Mortimer, Bruce Campbell, Bonnie Hunt, John Ratzenberger, Tony Shalhoub, Joe Mantegna, Thomas Kretschmann, Franco Nero, Eddie Izzard and Cheech Marin.
Cars 2 zooms into cinemas June 24th, 2011.
