Here’s the first look at Jason Momoa in the new Conan the Barbarian flick from ‘Friday the 13th’ and ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ remake director Marcus Nispel. It’s a teaser at best with images conjured via a sorcerer’s spell that only offer brief glimpses of the film and some lines spoken by Momoa’s brooding Barbarian.
The role was made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982 and while Mamoa has the acting chops having appeared in ‘Stargate Atlantis’, he’s no way near the massive frame of Arnie who also had considerable onscreen charm.
The movie poster pays homage to the work of acclaimed illustrator Frank Frazetta, suggesting that this film is modeled more-so on on the graphic novel version of the character.
The film also stars Rose McGowan, Bob Sapp, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman and Rachel Nichols.
Synopsis:
To avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his Cimmerian village, Conan goes on a quest to find and kill the sadistic warlord responsible. However, this warlord, Khalar Zym (Stephen Lang), is on his own quest to find an elusive young woman, Tamara (Rachel Nichols), the key to an enigmatic ritual of resurrection. When Conan abducts Tamara and uses her as bait, he is pursued by armies, besieged by monsters and led to a site of primeval magic and human sacrifice.
Conan the Barbarian hits cinemas August 19th, 2011.
