It’s rare for TV shows to have the scope of a movie, but when you include the talents of J.J Abrams and former Lost writer and executive producer Elizabeth Sarnoff, Alcatraz is beginning to look very enticing. While some pilots never make it to series, Fox was very impressed and quickly ordered 12 episodes in early March to ensure a good start to the show.
Now with the first trailer released we’re offered a better look at a concept that offers a return to cryptic mysteries. At first it seemed somewhat confusing, how exactly are inmates from a prison that closed in the 60’s transported to the present day? This first promo offers an explanation.
We’re transported back to when the prison was still in operation and we meet the inmates who will soon leave their time. Flash forward to the present and we meet Detective Rebecca Madsen played by Sarah Jones who’s investigating a grisly murder, though the finger prints point to an inmate of Alcatraz who died years ago. This brings Sam Neil into the picture as Agent Hauser, who’s tries to impede her from uncovering the truth though she soon enlists the help of Lost alum Jorge Garcia, an expert on Alcatraz to help put the pieces together.
The trailer is very clever and while it requires a leap of faith, it’s a well executed promo that suggests this could be another mesmerising piece of entertainment which should give ‘Lost’ fans a run for their money, and entice new viewers ready for a challenging hour of entertainment.
Alcatraz also stars Robert Forster, Jason Butler Harner, Parminder Nagra, Jonny Coyne, Jeffrey Pierce and Santiago Cabrera.
Alcatraz will air in the new TV season, Mondays at 9:00 pm.
