James Cameron Talks AVATAR Sequels

James Cameron was recently honored along with wife Suzy Amis at the recent Covenant House Gala in Los Angeles for their philanthropic work. While there FOX411’s Pop Tarts got to ask Cameron about the Avatar sequels, which will offer hundreds of jobs to talented visual effects artists.

We’re doing a lot of preliminary work right now on new software and new animation techniques and so on. We’re creating a new facility in Manhattan Beach so everybody that’s not already dead is coming back.

Cameron revealed that unlike other flicks that have been shot back to back, he won’t be creating a story that is merely split into two parts for time purposes, but offer up two separate stories which will complete a free-film story arc.

We’re shooting two films back-to-back, so I’m writing two scripts, not one,  — not really a trilogy, but just an overall character arc so I’m pretty excited about that.

This could mean that we might see a fourth movie further down the road, with each movie a new chapter in the stories from Pandora.

While plot details were not revealed, Cameron described the experience of writing the Avatar sequels:

There’s always an expectation. But my job is take the audience on a journey and entertain them. The second I am sitting down writing, I just go to Pandora. I don’t think about that stuff, about standing on a red carpet. It has its own life, really. The characters have their own lives.

More will be known in the years leading up to the release of Avatar 2 in December 2014, and Avatar 3 in December 2015.
