Okay so it’s just another Mission Impossible flick you’re thinking right? perhaps not – the fourth installment marks the live-action directorial debut of Brad Bird whose understanding of cinematic choreography and character design propelled his CGI superhero movie, The Incredibles to earn more than $600 million worldwide and win an Oscar in 2004 for Best Animated Feature.
Watching the new trailer you see everything you’d expect from a ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie and something more, it looks like they’ve nailed the action and developed an intricate script to keep viewers guessing to the end. Tom Cruise is in fine form and his new co-star Jeremy Renner looks set to shake things up, though nothing can keep the attention off Cruise who proves he’s still got a few more of these films left in him.
What’s also interesting is the inclusion of Rap Star Eminem’s “Won’t Back Down” which really adds to the momentum of the trailer and conveys a super cool vibe that may just make this the most anticipated outing yet. The action looks intense with some sequences such as when Hunt scales the Burj Khalifa in Dubai shot in the IMAX format, so this should really add to the spectacle and confirms Cruise has nerves of steel for doing his own stunts.
Ghost Protocol is produced by Tom Cruise and former United Artist co-owner and long time producing partner Paula Wagner, and is written by former ‘Alias’ scribes André Nemec and Josh Appelbaum. J. J. Abrams co-wrote and also serves as a producer this time round.
Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames reprise their series roles, along with Jeremy Renner, ‘Lost’ star Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor, Léa Seydoux, and Vladimir Mashkov.
Here’s the synopsis:
When a terrorist bombing destroys the Kremlin, the United States government activates “Ghost Protocol” and disavows the entire Impossible Mission Force. Ethan Hunt and his team are blamed for the attack, but are allowed to escape as part of a plan to enable them to operate outside their agency. Hunt is warned that if any member of his team is captured or compromised, they will be charged as terrorists planning a nuclear strike. He is forced to work with fellow IMF agent Brandt, who knows much more about Hunt and his past than Hunt himself.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens December 16th, 2011.
