A new trailer has been released for director John Moore‘s A Good Day to Die Hard, which sees the irrepressible Bruce Willis return as bad ass-cop, John McClane. This time the action takes place in Mother Russia alongside McClane’s estranged son, played by Jai Courtney, and together they take on a group of ‘evil commies’.
Judging from trailer, the direction of the franchise has shifted towards excessive action – not that that’s a bad thing – but quite a departure from the well crafted thriller that catapulted Willis to fame. The subsequent sequel was for the most part equally enjoyable, but the third flick lacked the charm and momentum of the first two. As for the fourth instalment, it’s hard to know where to begin describing the flaws of Len Wiseman‘s over the top offering – suffice to say that the core theme of a lone cop with the odds stacked against him were barely present – the action was impressive, but less believable.
A Good Day to Die Hard looks similarly distant from the John McTiernan 1988 classic, but we’ll have to wait and see how this new one turns out. While the action still requires a suspension of disbelief, it could be a fun instalment, despite the PG-13 rating which may dilute the violence.
The film also stars Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Megalyn Echikunwoke,Anne Vyalitsyna, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
