The first teasers trailers are here for the sequel to the film that nobody thought would be made, and for some were hoping would never be made. Anchorman 2 is scheduled to begin shooting next February, so these teasers are appetizers to ensure fans that the Channel 4 News Team is indeed back and the tone will be on a similarly ludicrous par with the 2004 original .
The script for the sequel is still being written so there are no real plot clues at this stage, except for writer/director Adam McKay‘s recent comments with Empire:
We’ve done about two per cent! Half a percent? We’ve got five pages of story notes and chunks of story. We’re holing up writing for the next three months.
The director hints that Ron Burgundy’s next adventure might pick up at the dawn of the 24-hour news cycle and diversity. The Channel 4 News Team are averse to change, so the story could take place at this turning point in the history of TV news:
It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79. All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.
The film stars Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues opens late 2013.
