An impressive first trailer for Cloud Atlas has gone online from directors Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski (The Matrix Trilogy), and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run). The ambitious project is based on David Mitchell‘s novel and tracks the lives of multiple characters across intersecting lifetimes.
The flick looks epic, the themes are big – perhaps too big, but nonetheless a thought provoking and possibly awe inspiring movie to make one truly rethink their place in the universe – and the general scheme of things. It’s rare to see a trailer of this length, it plays like a mini movie offering somewhat too much, but that probably means there’s plenty left to offer. The film-makers are certainly being forthcoming and show that they’ve got more to offer than just hi-tech themes and ‘bullet-time’ visuals seen in their Matrix Trilogy.
The film stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant.
