A new trailer is here for Peter Berg’s adaptation of the board game Battleship – suped up thanks to Hasbro with an alien invasion theme that borrows from the realm of ‘Transformers’. Visually the effects are top notch, and this could turn out to be an exciting flick, especially in the big screen digital format. Does the trailer make any sense? kind of – the big question is will the movie make sense.
Peter Berg’ last big action flick was the Will Smith super hero drama Hancock – which was full of narrative flaws that detracted heavily from the otherwise impressive visuals. While the style of ‘Battleship’ screams Michael Bay, we know that it only looks that way thanks to the snappy editing. While the ‘Tranformers’ franchise had it’s share of critical errors – there was always the saving grace that director Bay knew how to compensate for any script deficiencies with a helluva lot more impressive action.
Perhaps the only real intersting thing to watch for is the stunning Rihanna – who makes her feature film debut, and will most likely contribute to the soundtrack just to make the flick that much more marketable. Either way, as far as trailers go – it’s got plenty of eye candy so sit back and enjoy:
The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, and Liam Neeson.
Battleship opens May 18, 2012.
