Here’s the biggest clue that Bill Murray is on board for the third installment of Ghostbusters which is still in development and final script rewrites are said to be in progress.
Bill Murray came up on stage for the 2010 Scream Awards for last years Zombieland which won the award for Best Horror Movie in which he had a small but memorable role playing himself, thanks to Laughing squid for the pic.
He put on the proton pack and wore his classic Venkman ghost busting uniform which is a big nod that things are coming together on the third film and likely his way of saying, okay…enough already!

As for Ghostbusters 3 which is to be directed by Ivan Reitman, star Dan Aykroyd has confirmed to moviefone that he’s re-writing the script that was penned by the writers from TV’s The Office and he said how it has a great part for Bill Murray’s character.

I think he was concerned that the writing on Ghostbusters 3 by these guys would not be up to standard, but I can tell you firsthand, I’m working on the script now and those two – wrote Bill the comic role of a lifetime, and the new Ghostbusters and the old are all well represented in it…we have a strong first draft that Harold and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it.
Even though it’s been a few decades since the last film, he’s working those aspects into the new script and mentions how the film will bring the beloved characters up to date.
…in Ghostbusters 3 my character’s eyesight is shot, I got a bad knee, a bad hip – I can’t drive that caddy anymore or lift that Psychotron Accelerator anymore, it’s too heavy. We need young legs, new minds-new Ghostbusters; so I’m in essence passing the torch to the new regime, and you know what? That’s totally okay with me.
Returning cast members are said to be Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett and Rick Moranis as Louis Tully who had retired from acting and chose not to return for the voice overs in the video game.
The new story is set to follow Dana’s son Oscar, who is in fact Peter Venkman’s child and he’s now 21 or so and ready to take the reigns of the ghost busting business.
Eliza Dushku and comedy sensation Anna Faris are rumored to be attached to the project but there are still no confirmations, either way it’s all starting to materialize and we can’t wait for the sliming to begin!
