Christian Bale Talks THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The expectations for Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises grow by the week, and the recent IMAX prologue has only helped fuel the fire. While the response was impressive, some fans were unhappy with Bane’s voice which was at times inaudible, but the director believes that when audiences watch the finished film, they’ll see it adds to the character’s complexity:

Speaking with EW last month, Nolan had this to say:

I think when people see the film, things will come into focus. Bane is very complex and very interesting and when people see the finished film people will be very entertained by him.

The trailers and the prologue have given fans a lot to think about, but for those who are after more clues, director Nolan suggests looking at the end of the last film where Batman and Gordon (Gary Oldman) concoct a cover-up which pave the way for the finale. With some eight years having passed since those events, Gotham has seemingly recovered and Batmans’ plan may have worked.

Christopher Nolan adds:

At least superficially. The movie deals with the idea that if you’ve papered over the cracks, then you’re just solving problems in a way that may not hold for the future.

The third installment will by far be the biggest in scope and this time fans can expect a fully refitted Batcave under the rebuilt Wayne Manor,  destroyed at the hands of Liam Neeson‘s Ra’s al Ghul in Batman Begins. The actor recently confirmed with ShowbizSpy that he is reprising his role, however only briefly:

I can tell you nothing about ‘Dark Knight Rises’, seriously. I was on set for maybe an hour-and-a-half and the director didn’t tell me anything of what it’s about. So, I’m being very honest when I say I have no idea what’s going to happen.

For Christian Bale, the actor who plays Batman – he recently talked about the pressure of getting the character’s journey right.

I can tell you the truth because I’m done with it: I felt immense pressure. And I think it’s a good pressure, because you owe it to the films — and the people’s expectations — to make great work.

On Batman as a character:

For me, he’s an anarchist and a free spirit. He knows that there are parallels between him and his enemies because life is never stable – you always have to fight for it. Keeping in mind that it may never be boring and that nobody is obliging you to behave like a superhero and to always have your muscles flexed and bulging.

The final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy is highly anticipated, with IMAX Midnight screenings quickly selling out.

The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.

The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th, 2012.
