Whilst little is still known about the new Batman film except by Christopher Nolan and his team, what has now been confirmed is the title which builds on the second film, simply calling it The Dark Knight Rises. This works well for the franchise with the Dark Knight being the most popular association to Batman and serves to extend the series remarkably well, so kudos to them.
Casting is always the biggest clue as to the possible story with Nolan debunking the inclusion of the Riddler which is good that they’re looking at a nemesis who has possibly had less exposure. Whilst there was recent talk that a female actress was being eyed for a particular role, the thought of an appearance by Catwoman is equally vexing. What made the late and great Heath Ledgers’ performance so mesmerizing was the grounding of the Joker’s plight as a genius psychopath rather than the campy portrayals seen in the past.

That said Tom Hardy who was in Nolan’s Inception is on board after plans for Mad Max 4 were scrapped, and it is likely we’ll see some of the previous villains return to fill the obvious void of Ledger’s loss, as it was assumed that his character would be in the third film until his untimely passing.
At this stage it’s possible we may see Aaron Eckhart return as Harvey Dent/Two-Face and even Cillian Murphy as Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow. Nolan gave a cryptic response as to the likely hood of seeing some familiar faces:
We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones.
As for the production, the film will resist the temptation of using the 3D camera system and instead opt for the bigger format of high definition IMAX to expand the cinematic scope.
