COWBOYS AND ALIENS – New Trailer and Featurette

Cowboys & Aliens is the big screen adaption of the 2006 graphic novel written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley, with art work by Luciano Lima. The film has been in development for over a decade with Star Trek and Lost scribes Roberto OrciAlex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof bringing the concept up to scratch.

Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard are amongst the producers with Iron Man director Jon Favreau at the helm. While some of these big concept flicks run the risk of falling short, this one stands a better chance with plenty of accomplished filmmakers on board to make it one hell of a ride for audiences.

From what we’ve seen so far it promises to be a an enjoyable escapist fare that fuses the sci-fi and western genres. The new poster pays homage to the original cover with a giant spaceship looming in the background and the characters having their revolvers drawn.

The imagery from the trailers look quite spectacular and do justice to the comic created by Scott Rosenberg, the head of Platinum Studios who back in 1997 took the idea to the William Morris Agency, who were enticed by the cover of the cowboy on horseback looking over his shoulder at a gigantic spaceship. DreamWorks and Universal have since been developing the film with global distribution rights secured by Paramount.

The new trailer offers some fresh sequences without giving away too much of the plot, as well as a behind the scenes look with the filmmakers explaining how they brought this far fetched but intriguing concept to life.

The film stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Paul Dano, Clancy Brown, and Sam Rockwell.

Cowboys & Aliens opens July 29th, 2011.
