Distributor FilmDistrict has released the red-band trailer for the new Ryan Gosling flick Drive that’s directed by Nicolas Winding Refn who made the Tom Hardy jail flick ‘Bronson’. The new trailer premiered at the Cannes and LA Film Festivals and just days ago at Comic-Con, generating plenty of buzz.
Ryan Gosling stars as a stunt driver who becomes a wheelman for a band of criminals to help his neighbor played by Carey Mulligan, who’s husband is in deep trouble with them. Thing soon go awry and he must protect the neighbor and her young son. Drive also stars Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, Christina Hendricks, Oscar Isaac, and Albert Brooks. The trailer has some mild violence, showing a glimpse of the action which looks pretty cool and some interesting shifts in tone to jar the audience.
At the recent Comic-Con director Refn talked about his first meeting with Ryan Gosling, while out of his mind on flu medication. Since Refn doesn’t drive he asked the actor if he could give him a lift home, somewhat confused Gosling agreed. While on the way back the radio started playing “I Can’t Fight this Feeling Anymore” and Refn began singing and then yelled out “I GOT IT!” – Gosling, who also has director approval said “What?” Refn explained, “Drive is about a guy who drives around LA at night and he listens to 80s pop music and that’s his release.” Gosling paused and then said “Let’s do it.”
