Finally Sony Pictures have had the sense to release an official image of Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man garb before a snooping lens caught a glimpse and leaked a less than complimentary set snap. It’s definitely a step up from the previous spandex look with a new design that combines a retro fashionable style similar to the classic comics.
A lot can be drawn from this image with the moody lighting, Spidey looks pretty banged up and for some reason he’s not wearing his mask as he walks along carrying his backpack.
His face and suit have suffered some claw marks which might be an indication of an encounter with the villains of the movie ‘The Lizard’ or ‘Van Atter’. Peter Parker looks very pre-occupied and might be struggling with the responsibilities of his new alter ego as he contemplates his next move.
The costume also seems to have gold objects attached to the wrist which seem to look like web shooters. In the previous films they were an organic mutation as the filmmakers thought it might appear to be to advanced for a high schooler, though it was a feature of the comics.
Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot also stars Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard, Sally Field as Aunt May, and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, Denis Leary as George Stacy, Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson, Irrfan Khan as Van Atter, Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson as Peter Parker’s parents, and C. Thomas Howell. The budget of the movie is a respectable $80 million and is intended to be ‘gritty, contemporary’ take on the Marvel character.
