The new trailer is here for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance the follow up to the 2007 flick which was less than well received by fans, though made an impressive $230 million at the global box-office. Studios however saw the need to start over and hired new filmmakers to take the sequel in a new direction. While Nicolas Cage reprises his role, many of the elements such as his transformed state and the Ghost Rider bike have changed which make this more of a reboot. The Johnny Blaze back story has also been retooled and stars from the original – such as Eva Mendes aren’t returning.
The film is from directing team Neveldine/Taylor, and while they possess innovative ways of depicting a scene, some of the imagery does look wildly excessive, not to mention the story’s Omen theme. A recent preview screening had some of it’s audience tweeting that the film tanks.
Anyway the trailer offers a better idea of the plot and shows off plenty of CGI visuals – we’ll just have to wait and see.
The film also stars Violante Placido, Ciaran Hinds, Idris Elba, Christopher Lambert and Johnny Whitworth.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens in 3D on February 17, 2012.
