The first trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance has been released and shows off it’s insane visuals thanks to the creative minds behind the OTT ‘Crank’ movies – directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. These are hands on film-makers that live for creating in-your-face imagery that amplifies every moment, and for a character like Ghost Rider it could help bypass the memories of the lacklustre original.
This new flick is meant to play more like a reboot than a sequel, except with Nicolas Cage reprising his role. The studios were cautiously optimistic this time round giving the film makers only half the budget of the first, though it looks as if every cent is up on screen. The Ghost Rider character has undergone something of an overhaul as well, and the heightened action sequences seem to take advantage of the 3d imagery. All up this new installment may just add some zing to this franchise.
The story is by David S. Goyer who despite creating TV’s awful ‘Flash Forward’, has proved himself quite adept at adapting comic book characters and has found great success with the recent Batman flicks.
Shot mostly in Romania – which explains the rocky terrains – the story sees Johnny Blaze hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe where he’s recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy from the devil. Idris Elba who played Heimdall in ‘Thor’ also stars.
Somewhat light on story, the trailer looks quite impressive – though half way through you get the feeling this could just be a whole lot of eye candy.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens in 3D on February 17, 2012.
