The new trailer for the found footage horror pic Paranormal Activity 3 is online and this one looks very cool. While the second flick escalated the footage to mostly recovered home surveillance, this new installment goes back to the roots of the trusty camcorder.
The new trailer reveals an interesting premise that focuses on the early years of the two sisters Katie and Kristi and how the demon was invited into their lives, and to do this we see the video is captured via the Video 8 formats of that time. With the use of the camcorder as opposed to high angle security cams, a more personal perspective is achieved and although the handheld format can be distracting at times, it works to the advantage of these story’s narrative.
The filmmakers have done a fine job of recreating the 80’s for this ‘prequel to the prequel’ to the original flick, and it could just be a return to spooky form.
Paranormal Activity 3 opens October 21st, 2011.
