The international teaser trailer for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi flick Prometheus has been released offering us another glimpse at the mysterious premise set somewhere in the same universe as the filmmaker’s 1979 mega-hit, Alien. While there’s little in the way of new imagery – the trailer is more creepy than the previous release, certainly more ambiguous with lack of a title and encapsulated inside a 70’s style analogue transmission – something of a homage to Scott’s earlier sci-fi works.
All up it looks pretty fantastic and for the filmmaker this is something of a crowning achievement; shooting the movie in digital 3D for the first time. The production design also looks incredible, as star Noomi Rapace mentioned back in December – very little of the movie employs green screen environments; instead surroundings were built for real which enhanced her sense of immersion:
… it looks fantastic. I remember when I came into some of the sets, it just blew me away. It took my breath away, with the way they created it. We didn’t have green screen. I think we had it twice. They built everything. It felt like magic. It’s stunning. What’s so fantastic, with Ridley [Scott], is that he’s such an artist and he creates really big, amazing shots, but it’s still brutally beautiful, at the same time. I can’t wait to see it!
The script is from master story teller Damon Lindelof, who retooled the original prequel premise to offer a unique tale of terror, and if you’re wondering about the horror – you can be sure that a significantly terrifying extra terrestrial incarnation awaits – you’ll just have to wait until the film opens this June to find out.
The film also stars Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Idris Elba.
