Interest in Ridley Scott‘s new sci-fi flick Prometheus is starting to reach fever pitch as fans and the film community alike eagerly await the first trailer. Damon Lindelof retooled the original script which began as an Alien prequel, and by channeling the filmmaker’s vision – offered a concept which reportedly leads into the 1979 original.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog, Scott was very excited about his upcoming sci-fi flick:
I think the reason why I haven’t attempted science fiction in a number of years is because I haven’t really come across a script that I really liked. This developed and came out extremely well.
It’s safe to say that Prometheus will feature a brand new alien terror, and the director has hinted evolves into “a pretty good DNA of the ‘Alien’ one.”
The new futuristic tale sees a pack of scientists trapped on a distant planet where they discover the truth behind humankind’s origins and end up having to “fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.”
Scott has said the film’s central metaphor is about a “higher being” who challenges the gods, and the gods don’t want to give him fire:
“Fire is our first form of technology,” Scott says, and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished “in perpetuity in a horrible fashion.” ‘Much like the story of the mythological god, Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver.’
Now the first official images via EW show the spacesuits and outer-worldly architecture that have distinct though similar aesthetics to Alien.
Among the scientists who find themselves marooned on the planet are Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) an android named David (Michael Fassbender), and Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green). Charlize Theron plays corporate executive Meredith Vickers.
Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th, 2012.
