After a few decades, Ridley Scott is starting to realize that there’s plenty of fun to be had revisiting his movies that have become part of film culture and have helped changed the landscapes of genre flicks forever. Fans are super excited that his return to the Alien universe Prometheus is just around the corner, now comes word that the long gestating follow up to the movie Blade Runner, maybe making a shift in the direction fans have been hoping.
Recently it was announced that Hampton Fancher, who wrote the original Blade Runner, was in talks to develop and write a sequel to the groundbreaking 1982 film. No details are known about the plot other than the fact that the new film will take place “some years after the first film concluded.” Back in February, Ridley Scott stated that with a script not yet written, it was impossible to say whether Harrison Ford‘s detective and possible replicant character Rick Deckard, would feature. While the Alcon reps who are financing the flick have stated that a sequel would likely follow a new direction, bringing on board the original writer hints that a concluding story may have been laying dormant in the writer’s mind for some years, and revisiting the story and the central character is now a strong possibility.
While there hasn’t been any news of ‘negotiations’ that confirm Ford’s involvement – and this news itself could be deemed preemptive, the filmmaker is hinting that he’d like to see the actor return for the sequel.
Speaking with the newspaper The Independent, Scott revealed his hopes for the Blade Runner follow-up:
I don’t think it’ll be Harry [starring]. But I’ve got to have him in it somewhere. That’d be amusing.
If Ford does sign on, it’s hard to say what specific role he would play, supporting or cameo. Blade Runner left audiences with more questions than answers, but if Ford does return, we may finally know whether his character Deckard, did in fact dream of electric sheep.
